PLAY FOR OUR CLUB

You are invited to attend the next WPC Cricket General Meeting which will be held at the Clubhouse Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field, Orford Dr, Wolston Park , Wacol from 6.00pm on Friday 8 May 2026. There will be a Teams option for any members who are not able to attend in person and the link will be distributed once the agenda is finalised.

Social Smash finished up last Sunday with the Go-Team winning with 83 runs and the A-Team with 56. Everyone has enjoyed this new cricket experience and we are very keen to sign up for the next program. It's been fun, and there's been some great family and cross team rivalry. One comment was that it presented a nice opportunity to do an activity as a family. Thanks to all of the participants and to Renee Sharland and Queensland Cricket for bringing this exciting opportunity to WPC Cricket. Thanks to Dom and Lily for umpiring. We are working with Queensland Cricket to decide when the next round of Social Smash will start.

3rd Social Smash session this afternoon. This time the Go-Team were winners with 171 runs and the A-Team 144. Great to see some new participants including WPC Cricket President Peter and Curator Troy. The challenge was on. It was a great, friendly session, a wonderful way to end a whole weekend of cricket.

CJ - Friday BBQs - we are intending to run a BBQ on Friday (weather permitting) for the remaining weeks of this season as a way to engage with our members, create a more social atmosphere and a club fundraiser. This was suggested by Andre Rhule, Girls Cricket Manager and will be run by volunteers. So if you can help out let Andrew girlscricket@wpccricket.com.au know and please come by and purchase a sausage in bread and a drink. Looking forward to seeing you there.

WPC has signed up for the Containers for Change partnership program where not for profit community organisations can have bins located at their facility, get free collections and some money coming to the club. Today Greg White and Ellen Ferris took delivery of our bins from Jay, from the Inala Containers for Change depot Panda Recycling . We are excited that this will mean we can recycle without needing significant volunteer effort, an often time consuming and dirty job. Now it is over to you, our members and visitors to do the right thing and only put containers for change recyclables in the bins - removing any caps or lids. Food scraps or other general waste are to go in the red lid bin as in the picture (please no liquids like partially full coffee cups which unfortunately regularly make their way in there).

The funds raised will be attributed to club needs and help reduce the need to increase playing fees. We need 3-4 volunteers at all times to cover the period 7am - 4pm with serving from 8am-3pm. There is also preparatory work and purchasing of products in the days leading up to event that we may need help with. If you can help on the day or before please let Abhay know including your time availability at president@wpccricket.com.au

This version of cricket is safe, fun, and easy to pick up and no protective equipment is required.
The program runs for 4 weeks, every Sunday from 8th March-29th March 2026.
It’s a mixed social competition and the age groupings are:
10-14 years – 3-4 pm
15 years to adult – 4-5pm

Cost
The cost is $40 ($10/week) + Cricket Australia insurance which includes all equipment during the sessions, Qld Cricket coaches and lots of fun!!!

Smash Series is a fast-paced, high-energy format perfect for players of all skill levels. This version of cricket is safe, fun, and easy to pick up and no protective equipment is required.
The program runs for 4 weeks, every Sunday from 8th March-29th March 2026.
It’s a mixed social competition and the age groupings are:
10-14 years – 3-4 pm
15 years to adult – 4-5pm

Cost
The cost is $40 ($10/week) + Cricket Australia insurance which includes all equipment during the sessions, Qld Cricket coaches and lots of fun!!!

If you are a junior player and want a bit of extra cricket you might be interested. If you are an adult – a current player, parent, volunteer, supporter, community member who may want to dredge up those cricket skills from your past or have an interest in this fun, new competition you might consider giving this a go.
